Rally against persecution of journalists gathered 100 in Rostov-on-Don
Rostov journalists have set up a commission for meeting the Governor of the Rostov Region Vasily Golubev on the issue of persecution of their colleagues. This was decided at a rally held today for the freedom of speech, said Vladislav Ryazantsev, one of the participants.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the trial of the criminal case initiated against the Rostov journalist and publisher Alexander Tolmachov, and the verdict passed on November 26 to Rostov journalist Sergey Reznik, pushed the public of the city to hold the above rally for freedom of speech.
"The local Fountain Square was the venue for over 100 activists of such movements like the "Left-Wing Front", "United Civil Front", "Solidarity", and the "Yabloko" Party. People came with posters and slogans calling to defend regional journalists of Don and expressed their serious concern about the situation with the freedom of expression that exists in the Rostov Region," Vladislav Ryazantsev, the coordinator of the "Left-Wing Front" in the Rostov Region, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
The rally adopted and signed a resolution to be sent to the Russian President, Prime Minister and General Public Prosecutor.
