For three months, public services fail to eliminate sewage leak in area of Olympic hospitality, Sochi residents report
In Sochi, residents of Chebrikov Street complain about the inaction of the authorities and public services, which for more than three months fail to take proper measures to eliminate the accident at the sewage and water-supply pipes. According to Sochi residents, several houses became virtually uninhabitable.
For three months already, water from the sewage and heating systems flows out of the retaining wall of the house No. 36 located in Chebrikov Street and diffuses offensive odours. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by local residents.
"We have repeatedly appealed to the city and the district administrations, to public services, and even to the Chief Department of the Russian Ministry for Emergencies (MfE) for the Krasnodar Territory. In response, we got runaround letters written as if by means of a copy paper," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed by Olga Shvedova, a member of the House Committee of No. 36 in Chebrikov Street.
Olga has added that Chebrikov Street and the entire residential neighbourhood of Areda are within the area of Olympic hospitality.
"Five hundred persons live in our house; and more than three thousand in the nearby ones... What do the authorities of Olympic Sochi strive for? Do they wait for an infection outburst that can take thousands of lives of residents and guests of the Olympic capital?" said Olga Shvedova.
"The Sochi Mayor wants city residents to clean up territories near their houses. However, what kind of order can be established here, if even the Chief Department of the MfE sees no emergency in the current situation and fails to take respective?" asks Olga Shvedova.
