Soldier escapes from Vladikavkaz military unit because of abuse, his relatives assert
On December 20, a 23-year-old resident of Chelyabinsk, who was called for military service in this November, escaped from the military unit of Vladikavkaz, claiming moral humiliation and abuse occurring there. This was reported on December 22 by Valeria Prikhodkina, Principal of the Chelyabinsk "Schools of Conscript", who referred to the soldier's sister.
According to the young man's female relative, her brother served on the military training ground in Tarsk. He repeatedly called from there and told her about abusing treatment from superior military men, failure to provide medical care to sick conscripts, and living conditions.
"They stand during eating, they wash dishes in an icy mountain river, and they are subjected to moral humiliation and abuse. He has said: 'I do not want the same thing happen to me like to other guys they are brought to a 'psychiatric hospital' or they cut their veins,'," Valeria Prikhodkina quotes the conscript's sisters as saying.
According to her, on December 20, unable to withstand abuse and humiliation, the young man left the military training ground without permission and went to the Military Prosecutor's Office of the Vladikavskaz Garrison; however, there he was met by the battalion commander, who took the soldier back to the military unit, the RIA "Novy Region-Chelyabinsk" reports.
The information agency notes that it is not the first complaint from the mentioned military unit. In early December, Chelyabinsk human rights defenders sent letters to a number of state institutions about abuse against another recruit from the Chelyabinsk Region a 19-year-old resident of the village of Araslanovo of the Nyazepetrovsk District.
