MIA: "Vikhr-Anti-Terror" operation in Volgograd results in over 700 detainees
More than 700 people were detained for various offenses during the operation "Vikhr Anti-Terror", conducted in Volgograd after the terror acts, said the MIA of the Volgograd Region.
Let us remind you that the major antiterrorist operation was launched on December 31 after two terror acts committed in the city within 24 hours. The operation "Vikhr Anti-Terror" ("vikhr" means whirlwind) will last until further notice. During the operation, policemen inspect crowded places – train stations, airports, river ports and critical facilities.
According to the regional MIA, as of January 2, the police checked around 6000 objects, including 2500 dwelling houses, 37 bus and 23 railway stations.
Over 700 persons have been detained for various administrative offenses, 12 had been on the wanted list, and 70 are criminal suspects.
The region is still under the high, "yellow", level of terrorist threat, says the website of the Volgograd administration.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 29 and 30, in Volgograd, terror acts were committed at the railway station and in a trolleybus, which killed 36 people, including two suicide bombers. Over 70 people were wounded; of them 62 are still taking their treatment at medical institutions.
