Volgograd residents protest against construction near their house
The construction in Volgograd of the so-called "zero frontage highway" within the preparation for the 2018 FIFA World Cup can damage the house No. 1 in Pugachovskaya Street; the house is in the landslide zone and is an object of cultural heritage, the residents of the house assert. According to city officials, the construction will go within the law and town planning standards.
The above house was built in 1957 and is administrative and residential, Vasily Vasiliev, the deputy chairman of the house council, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
According to his story, on December 19, builders erected a fence near the house and explained that a multi-storey hotel will be built there. Residents of the house sent an appeal to the Volgograd Mayor Irina Guseva and the Regional Minister of Culture Viktor Gepfner, asking them to prevent a possible damage to the object of cultural heritage.
Alexander Molozhavenko, the Chairman of the Committee for Architecture and Urban Planning of the Administration of Volgograd, has explained to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that they had received an application for construction, but the issue was not considered officially.
On December 26, 2013, the tenants met officials near their house. Sergey Tatsiy, the First Deputy Head of the Administration of the Voroshilov District, explained that the fence was installed around the green zone, because some unidentified persons began dumping construction wastes there, but no construction was in question.
Natalia Sedova, one of the tenants, found the authorities' explanation unsatisfactory; she is confident that an attempt to capture the land plot and the house will be made again.
Let us remind you that on August 8, 2013, picketers demanded from the authorities of Volgograd to stop building the hotel, felling the greenery and capture of parkland.
