Pentagon offers Russia its help in preventing terror acts on the eve of Olympic Games in Sochi
The US Department of Defence offered Russia its assistance in the prevention of terrorist threats on the eve of the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi. This was stated by Chuck Hagel, United States Secretary of Defence, in a phone conversation with Sergey Shoigu, Russian Minister of Defence, which took place on January 4.
The phone conversation between the Ministers of Russia and the United States took place at the initiative of the American side. Chuck Hagel has "expressed the willingness to intensify the interaction of the defence ministries of the two countries to prevent terrorist threats, especially on the eve of the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi," the website of the Ministry of Defence (MoD) of the Russian Federation reports.
"United States Secretary of Defence Hagel has expressed his condolences over the recent terror acts in Volgograd. The Minister has condemned the terror acts and said the United States supports the people of Russia in the fight against terrorism," said John Kirby, Pentagon Press Secretary.
The terror acts in Volgograd one of which was committed at the railway station on December 29, 2013, and the second one in the trolley-bus on December 30, 2013, killed 36 persons, including the two suicide bombers. More than 70 persons were injured. 22 persons, who were injured in the terror acts in Volgograd, receive medical treatment in Moscow.
