In Armenia, oppositionist Shant Harutyunyan stops his hunger strike
In the morning of January 10, Shant Harutyunyan, the leader of the "Tsegakron" Party, who was arrested during the "March of Millions of Masks", stopped his hunger strike. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by the Department of Public Relations and Media of the Armenian Ministry of Justice.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 5, Shant Harutyunyan was detained by policemen during the "March of Millions of Masks", when participants of the protest action entered into a confrontation with police.
Officials from the Ministry of Justice have emphasized that at present, Shant Harutyunyan is under the supervision of doctors at the hospital for prisoners. "Physicians estimate the health status of Shant Harutyunyan as normal, and he took food voluntarily," the officials from the Ministry of Justice have emphasized.
On December 25, 2013, Shant Harutyunyan went on hunger strike because he was not allowed to be visited by his relatives. According to Arthur Sakunts, the head of the Helsinki Citizens' Assembly Vanadzor Office, who visited Shant Harutyunyan on January 6, the detainee is exhausted, and he can hardly walk. The hunger strike of Shant Harutyunyan was supported by Liparit Petrosyan and Vage Mkrtchyan, two other detained protesters.
