US Department of State warns Americans about risks of coming to Sochi
The 2014 Olympics is "an attractive target for terrorists"; therefore, the Americans willing to visit the Sochi Olympics "should be careful about their safety", the US Department of State has stated. By urging its citizens "to be vigilant", the US Office reminds them about the terror acts in Volgograd, which is about 680 kilometres away from Sochi.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Volgograd was hit by two terror acts – on December 29 at the railway station and on December 30 in a trolleybus. As a result, 36 people were killed; and more than 70 others were injured.
The US Department of State has emphasized that "there is no evidence about any threat against" American citizens, but they should "follow sound practices of observing security."
While alerting its citizens, the US Department of State has also pointed to the quality of medical care in Russia, which is different from "Western standards"; a high level of criminality and the law banning any promotion of homosexuality among minors.
Let us remind you that on January 4, the US Department of Defence (DoD) offered help to their Russian colleagues in preventing terror threats at the 2014 Olympics. On January 11, the FBI said that they were ready to send their agents to Russia in order to maintain security at the Olympics.
