Experts associate killings of taxi drivers in the Stavropol Territory with militants' attempts to disrupt the Olympics
The murders of six people in the Stavropol Territory have to do with militants' attempts to disrupt the Olympics in Sochi, local law enforcers believe. Experts have also noted that investigators fail to disclose important circumstances of these resonant crimes.
On January 8, in two dwelling settlements of the Kirov and Predgorny Districts of the Territory, four VAZ cars were found with six bodies inside. Near three cars explosive devices were planted; one of them went off.
A Moscow criminologist, who asked not to name him, believes that the above murders were committed by a terrorist grouping. He added that the geography of recent terror acts suggests that terrorists are moving closer to the venues of the Olympic Games.
A retired colonel, named Anton, who took part in the armed conflict in Chechnya and neighbouring regions of Northern Caucasus, believes that the manner of the above killings is similar to the typical behaviour of the members of the North-Caucasian armed underground.
According to a special agent, named Umar, who works in one of the republics of Northern Caucasus, there is no safeguard against new crimes such as those committed in the Predgorny and Kirov Districts of the Stavropol Territory.
In his turn, Yuri Efimov, Doctor of Political Sciences and President of the Stavropol Regional Public Fund "Assistance-South", believes that the recent murders in the Stavropol Territory were committed with the aim to sow panic among the population.
