Krasnodar Territorial Court dismisses complaint against refusal to sanction gay parade in Sochi
The Krasnodar Territorial Court has dismissed the appeal filed by Nikolai Alekseev, an LGBT activist, against the Court's decision to refuse to hold a gay pride parade in Sochi.
Let us remind you that the Sochi administration has banned to hold a march and a picket of LGBT activists in support of tolerance, scheduled for September 26, 2013. Nikolai Alekseev, the LGBT activist, has challenged the decision of the Sochi administration at the Central District Court of Sochi; however, the Court has dismissed his complaint. Disagreeing with the Court's decision, Nikolai Alekseev has filed an appeal.
Tamara Dary, Press Secretary of the Krasnodar Regional Court, believes that Nikolai Alekseev will appeal against the Court's decision at the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR).
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in June 2013, the State Duma of the Russian Federation adopted the law providing penalties for propaganda of non-traditional sexual relations. This law has caused concern of the international community, including the US State Department that claimed possible threat of non-observance of rights of gay athletes during the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi.
