Armenia: Shant Harutyunyan's advocate challenges investigators' group
In Armenia, Inessa Petrosyan, the advocate of Shant Harutyunyan, the leader of the "Tsegakron" Party, who was detained during the "Million Mask March", has petitioned the General Prosecutor's Office with her challenge of the investigative group and its head Samvel Tonoyan. The petition should be considered before January 19.
Shant Harutyunyan was detained on November 5, 2013, at the "Million mask March", after activists entered into a confrontation with the police. Subsequently Harutyunyan and 19 other marchers were placed under arrest.
Given that a law enforcement officer is a party in the case, the police have no right to investigate the case, Inessa Petrosyan told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that earlier, on December 25, Shant Harutyunyan went on hunger strike against the ban on relatives' visits. On January 15 the ban was lifted.
