Coalition "Eurasian Choice" asks Georgian authorities to send delegation to Sochi Olympics
The nongovernmental organizations, public figures and journalists-members of the coalition "Eurasian Choice-Georgia" have addressed the prime minister and president of Georgia urging them to send an official delegation to the Olympics in Sochi.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 2, 2013, Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili stated that the government had decided not to attend Sochi for taking part in the official events of the Olympic Games. The main reason was the unwillingness of Georgia's top executives to occur in the official box of the Sochi Olympic Stadium with the leaders of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, whose independence had been recognized by Russia.
"We believe that by sending an official, even a very small, delegation, Georgia will show its goodwill to the world. Given the moral and financial support from Georgia's Government, the initiative can undoubtedly play a positive role in normalization of relations between the two countries," Archil Chkoidze, the chairman of the coalition "Eurasian Choice-Georgia", has commented on the address.
During the Games, in accordance with the Olympic principles, all the wars shall be stopped, said Nana Devdariani, the head of the Centre for Global Studies.
