Abkhaz authorities enhance security measures before Olympic Games in Sochi
For the period of January 20-March 21, the boundaries of the border zone in the Gagra District of Abkhazia will be changed because of the Olympic Games in Sochi. The appropriate decision was made by the Government of Abkhazia.
The border zone has been temporarily determined with width of 11 km inward the territory of Abkhazia from the state border with the Russian Federation.
In accordance with the Government's decision of January 18, citizens entering the border zone during the specified period of time are required to carry identity documents.
Besides, the Government's decision provides for the establishment of the stationary checkpoint in the village of Bagrypsh, at the 11th km of the republican road "Psou-Ingur", to check documents and inspect vehicles for weapons, ammunition, explosives and other items prohibited for carriage.
On January 18, Aslan Bzhaniya, Chairman of the State Security Service of Abkhazia, delivered a speech on air of the National TV Channel and urged citizens to treat with understanding the actions undertaken in connection with the forthcoming Olympic Games in Sochi.
