In Maikop, "Adyge Khase-Circassian Council" begins actions of Year of Sorrow
Adygea began to hold events to mark the Year of Sorrow, announced by the Maikop city organization "Adyge Khase-Circassian Council" in connection with the 150th anniversary of the end of the Russian-Caucasian War.
Let us remind you that the decision to declare the year of 2014 the Year of Sorrow was made at the meeting of the Board of the Maikop organization "Adyge Khase-Circassian Council" held on last November 14.
The Caucasian War, which lasted from 1763 to 1864, put the Adyg peoples to the brink of extinction. After the war and the mass deportations of Adygs to the Ottoman Empire, their number in the homeland was a bit more than 50,000 people. Till present, the Russian authorities still have not made a decision to recognize the Circassian genocide during the Caucasian War. This was noted by the "Adyge Khase" of Adygea, Karachay-Cherkessia, and the Krasnodar Territory.
"Since January 2, every Thursday, we hold a mourning ritual in memory of the victims of the Caucasian War," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Sergey Koblev, a member of the Board of the Maikop organization "Adyge Khase-Circassian Council".
"We will conduct the mourning ritual every Thursday until the end of this year. I began to write on the wall of my house the names of the villages in Adygea, Kabardino-Balkaria, and Karachay-Cherkessia, which were ravaged and burnt during the Caucasian War," the Circassian public figure has said.
