HRW: in 2013, human rights violations were recorded in all countries of Southern Caucasus and in Russia
In Russia, the year of 2013 was marked by the attack on civil society and the critics of the Kremlin, launched by the authorities in the previous year. This was stated in the section devoted to the Russian Federation in the world report of the organization "Human Rights Watch" (HRW). Today, human rights defenders present the report in Moscow. The document mentions the laws restricting rights of LGBT community and freedom of expression and the violations of human rights committed in Northern Caucasus. The section of the HRW's report devoted to Russia lists the most typical, according to the human rights defenders, violations of human rights. They relate to the law requiring a number of public organizations to register as "foreign agents", freedom of expression and persecution of human rights defenders and critics of the Kremlin, preparations for the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympic Games, the law prohibiting the dissemination among minors of the "propaganda of non-traditional sexual relations."
The separate sections are devoted to the situation in Northern Caucasus and the Russia's cooperation with the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR), and the situation with the rights of migrants and people with disabilities.
The sections of the report devoted to Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Georgia also mention the documented violations of human rights.
