Exhibition in Cherkessk presents 39 sand paintings on Caucasian War
In Karachay-Cherkessia, an exhibition, dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the end of the Russian-Caucasian War, presents 39 works by Sheomir Guchepshoko, a Circassian painter.
The event, which was opened on January 21 and will last till February 9 at the Art Gallery of the State Historical and Cultural Museum of Karachay-Cherkessia, was organized by the Federal National-Cultural Autonomy of Adygs (FNCAA) of Russia.
As noted by Alexander Okhtov, the chairman of the FNCAA, at the opening ceremony, the Guchepshoko's paintings are of unusual style: "They are made of sand. This exhibition is devoted to the tragedy that happened 150 years ago. I think it's not on the Adyg nation only – today, all nations should live in peace and joy."
He added that for the first time the exhibition was organized in Nalchik on May 21, 2013. "Today, people can visit it in Cherkessk. Thereafter, the paintings will be presented in Adygea, Moscow, Turkey and other countries where Adygs (Circassians) live," said Okhtov.
