Mutko: 78 Russians will perform at Winter Paralympics in Sochi
At the 2014 Winter Paralympic Games in Sochi the Russian national team will consist of 78 athletes from 17 regions, Vitaly Mutko, the Russian Minister of Sports, has announced today; in total, the Russia's delegation will include 195 persons.
The members of the Paralympic team were named after the joint sitting of the staff in charge of the preparation of the Russian national team for the Paralympics and the Executive Committee of the Russian Paralympic Committee.
Russians will compete for awards in all the five disciplines of the Paralympics: skiing, biathlon and alpine skiing, where athletes with disorders of the musculoskeletal system and visually impaired ones will compete; wheelchair curling and sledge hockey, the "Kommersant" reports.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the Russian national team at the Winter Olympics in Sochi will include 223 athletes – the top ever figure for the country.
