French journalist detained in Dagestani Buynaksk released
In Dagestan, the earlier detained correspondent of the French Le Figaro, who came to write an article about Zarema Bagavutdinova, an activist of the Dagestani Regional Public Organization (DRPO) "Pravozaschita" (Advocacy), is back at large.
"I don't know his surname, his name is Pierre; and he came to Buynaksk to write an article about my sister Zarema (she is suspected of recruiting locals to the armed underground, – note of the "Caucasian Knot") We agreed to meet with him at the store 'Guraba', where Zarema had worked earlier. However, when I drove up, a store clerk told me that the journalist had been detained by the police," Burliyat Bagavutdinova, a resident of Buynaksk, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
According to a source from the police station, the reason for detention was a passport check, since the journalist had no passport on him.
Meanwhile, a saleswoman of the "Guraba", where the journalist was detained, said about the second visit of the police. "They demanded my personal data, behaved rudely, while they themselves refused to present their IDs. First, one agent came; then, he called others, who arrived in two cars. Finally, I showed my documents to them; and they left," said the saleswoman.
