Jury at Politkovskaya's murder case was shown the pistol that killed the journalist
At the session of the Moscow City Court (MCC) that considers the murder of Anna Politkovskaya, an observer of the "Novaya Gazeta", the jurors were shown the pistol that killed her. Besides, the court questioned the journalist's daughter Vera Politkovskaya.
Let us remind you that four natives of Chechnya, namely, an entrepreneur Lom-Ali Gaitukaev and his three nephews; as well as an ex-policeman Sergey Khadjikurbanov, are accused of organizing Politkovskaya's murder. They refuse to plead guilty.
During the today's session at the MCC, Vera Politkovskaya said that her mother had often told her about the problems associated with her work, and asked her to be careful. Besides, she said, shortly before the murder, her mother often saw strangers at the entrance of the house.
Murad Musaev, an advocate of one of the defendants, said that surveillance cameras fixed a man and a woman who followed Politkovskaya on the day of the murder at the grocery store. "These people were not identified; the man covers his face with hands; and the defence suggests that Politkovskaya had seen them in the doorway," said the advocate.
During the second part of the session at the MCC, the jurors were shown the bullets and the pistol used to kill Politkovskaya. According to the state prosecution, the journalist was shot dead from a gas pistol 6P42-76, converted for shooting combat cartridges.
