KBR meets Olympic Flame with flash mob
On Thursday, in Nalchik, the Torch Relay was held at the "Spartak" Stadium. The city youth welcomed the symbol of Winter Games with a flash mob – several hundreds of them lined up in the shape of the five Olympic rings.
Olympic Flame was carried in by world champion in weightlifting Khadjimurat Akaev; in total, there were 46 torchbearers, including Olympic Champions and prize-winners, sport veterans and figures of culture.
Then, Yuri Kokov, the acting head of the republic, and Aslanbek Khushtov, the Olympic Champion in wrestling, lit fire in the Olympic bowl installed in the centre of the stadium.
The relay was watched, despite the unusual for the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR) frost of minus 15 degrees, by some 6000 spectators, as estimated by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. The stadium with 14,000 seats was nearly half-full.
It is expected that on January 31 the Olympic Flame will climb Mount Elbrus, being brought there by alpinists Karina Mezova and Abdulkhalim Olmezov.
