Sochi sets up transport filters to read Olympic automobile accreditations
Starting from February 1, special electronic filters will control the roads of Sochi, intended to read information from the accreditation certificates attached to motor vehicles, said Andrei Zhukov, the head of the transport directorate of the 2014 Games. The devices are designed to ensure the non-stop movement of the Olympic transport vehicles.
The transport filters can read information from the accreditation certificates and a transponders (transmitters intended for quick passage of payment posts at car parks, – note of the "Caucasian Knot"), posted on vehicles' windshields. After recognizing the needed information, the sensor sends a signal to pass the car, the website of the Olympic transport directorate reports.
"In total, we installed 15 transport filters to control the traffic in the mountain and coastal clusters, at the entrances to sports facilities, as well as on the combined road from Adler to Krasnaya Polyana. The devices are arranged in such a way as not to impede the movement of local residents," said Andrei Zhukov, the head of the Directorate.
Apart from the transport filters, the Directorate has installed other devices in the streets of Sochi, which make altogether the intellectual road system of the 2014 Games, including variable information boards at halting points, video surveillance systems, as well as sensors for monitoring the traffic and meteorological conditions.
