In Georgia, former bosses of Gldani Prison sentenced to nine years under "Tetradze's case"
The Tbilisi City Court has sentenced three former top managers of Gldani Prison No. 8 to nine years of imprisonment each. Other five defendants were acquitted; one was sentenced to two years in prison; and two others – to six years each.
The detainee Sergo Tetradze died after being questioned in Gldani Prison in September 2011. The first criminal case into his death was closed for lack of crime elements. But then, the second case was opened, in which three former prison bosses and several others employees were the defendants.
The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports that on January 27 the three bosses – the former head of Gldani Prison Alexander Mukhaidze; Oleg Patsatsia, the head of the regime service; and Victor Kacheishvili, the security chief of the prison, were sent to colony.
Also, the convicts in this case are policemen Kokhta Kodua and Tornike Gunava, who took part in beating Tetradze. They received six years in colony each; another policeman – Zviad Kapanadze – was sentenced to two years. Currently Kodua is on the run; his sentence was passed in absentia.
Former employees of Gldani Prison Rati Mgeladze, Merab Metreveli, Alexander Kuchuashvili, Mamuka Tsurtsumiya and Giorgi Samushia were acquitted. In this regard, the prosecutor's office has already expressed their dissatisfaction with the verdict.
