In Sochi, storm floods shore reinforcement near Olympic venues
At night on January 31, a great storm occurred near the Olympic facilities located in the Imereti Lowland of Sochi. The seashore reinforcement and Tsimlyanskaya Street were flooded, said residents of the street.
"We had said that they shouldn't erect the reinforcement like that. It was impossible to remove the beach pebbles and pour concrete instead. The wave acceleration has become still higher. Earlier, the beach itself softened the waves. Now, encountering the resistance of the concrete, waves accelerate still stronger and reach further, and flood us," said a local woman.
The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has learnt from the Mayor's telephone hotline that the local units of the Ministry for Emergencies (MfE) have already begun pumping water from the households in Tsimlyanskaya Street, where residents were flooded by the storm.
According to locals, they have suffered huge losses because of incorrect designing and building the seashore protection.
