Azerbaijani "Dalga" movement intends to seek tougher punishment for bringing people to suicide
Since the start of 2014, Azerbaijan has registered 21 suicides and a few suicide attempts, including in the form of self-immolation, said a spokesman of the youth movement "Dalga" (Wave). Activists of the movement are going to demand from the authorities to toughen the penalties for bringing people to suicide.
Let us remind you that on January 30 a young woman made a self-immolation attempt in Baku. She was hospitalized in grave condition. Her name is Maleika Intizam gyzy Bairamly; she was born in 1993.
Her health condition is grave, as some 70-75 percent of the skin of her body is covered with burns. The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told at the burn ward of Hospital No. 5 that the girl was put into the intensive care unit.
As calculated by the "Caucasian Knot", this is the fifth case of self-immolation in Azerbaijan since December 25, 2013.
Public figures of Azerbaijan express their concern about the growth of suicides and suicide attempts in the country.
"All this is evidence of serious social problems in the country. We demand from the government to take care of its citizens," Gadji Zeinally, the leader of the "Dalga", told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
