Picketers in Sochi demand a Law on "Children of War"
A branch of the public all-Russian organization "Children of War" was launched in Sochi. The first action of the branch was a picket held in support of the demand to pass a law on this category of citizens.
Igor Vasiliev, the First Secretary of the Sochi Branch of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (CPRF), told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that in order to attract the attention of the authorities to the problems of "Children of War", a picket sanctioned by the local administration and attended by five persons was held on February 1 in Khosta in Victory Park.
"The aim of the picket was the need to draw the authorities' and public attention to the impermissibility of heavy material situation with the Sochi residents, who were born in the period from 1928 to 1945, and who went, along with the then adults, through all the hardships of the wartime. Currently, these people mostly live for their scanty pension and have no social benefits," said Igor Vasiliev.
The Mayoralty of Sochi has confirmed that the picket was coordinated with the authorities and held in Khosta in Victory Park, allocated for holding protests during the Olympic Games.
