On the day of Olympic Torch Relay Maikop was crowded, citizens report
A section of the Olympic Torch Relay was held today in the city of Maikop, the capital of Adygea. The festive event was held at elevated security measures; however, there were plenty of people in the streets, residents report.
The Olympic Flame arrived in Maikop from Kabardino-Balkaria, where, as the "Caucasian Knot" has reported, the symbol of the Winter Olympics in Sochi was met by a flash mob. It was planned that the route of the Olympic Torch Relay in Maikop would be about 10 kilometres long.
According to Natalia A., a resident of Maikop, there were quite a lot of people on the streets. "Only in Gagarin Street, where I stood, there were probably more than a thousand people. I think there were those sent from the work in the organized way, and those who came by themselves. A lot of young people crowded there – schoolchildren and students. Despite the snow and frost, many came with their children and sledges. I saw a lot of policemen there. The entire route was cordoned off; policemen were standing every 15-20 meters. The streets adjacent to the relay route were blocked. Spectators had to present their passports; their bags very closely examined," said Natalia A.
However, as she confessed, together with her colleagues she was sent to the festivity "in the mandatory manner." "To be honest, if not for the order of my bosses, I wouldn't go anywhere," said Natalia A.
