Volgograd: parents of children with disabilities plan to go on hunger strike on February 4
Parents of many children and parents of children with disabilities are going to start their protest hunger strike on February 4, as they stated at a press conference on February 3. Their demands include increase of monthly child allowances and provide free public transportation.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that 12 parents of large families of Volgograd held a hunger strike from September 23 to October 4, 2013. They demanded to pay attention to the situation with the motherhood and childhood in the Volgograd Region. On September 12-30 last year, 38 mothers of children with disabilities of the Volgograd Region held the so-called "fan-type" hunger strike demanding to open a rehabilitation centre in the Region.
"We held rallies, pickets and hunger strikes; they promised to fulfil our demands, but they promise a lot, speak nicely; however, they eventually inflate bureaucracy, buy foreign cars and raise public transport fares; but we continue living in poverty," said Elena Samoshina, the head of a public committee "Parents of large families".
