Volgograd parents of many children go on hunger strike
Parents of large families and of children with disabilities have gone on an endless hunger strike. They demand to solve their housing problems and increase the amount of benefits and social help to large families and families with disabled children.
The protest announced since February 5 is held by 16 persons, who stay in the building of the former Regional Committee of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (CPRF), Elena Samoshina, a hunger-striker, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
"Out of 29 persons, who had initially planned to participate in the hunger strike, 16 persons are here, because we have nothing to sleep on." she said. "It's very cold here – plus 13 degrees Centigrade, we have no mattresses, no pillows," Ms Samoshina said, adding that the protesters will take only water.
Let us remind you that from September 23 to October 4, 2013, 12 parents of large families of Volgograd held their hunger strike, demanding from the authorities to address the issue of motherhood and childhood in the Volgograd Region. On September 12-30, 38 mothers of children with disabilities of the Volgograd Region held a so-called "fan-type" hunger strike demanding the opening of a rehabilitation centre in the region.
