ECtHR considered the case " Sargsyan vs. Azerbaijan"
The European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) in Strasbourg has finished the hearing of the case "Sargsyan versus Azerbaijan". The court decision has not been announced yet.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the complaint filed in 2006 contains information that before 1992 Minas Sargsyan with his family lived in the village of Gulistan; however, as a result of hostilities he was forced to leave his native village. The claimant asserts that Azerbaijan refused to provide him with a chance to return home. On January 9, 2012, the Supreme Chamber of the ECtHR found the complaint of Minas Sargsyan against Azerbaijan to be justified.
Currently, Sargsyan has died, but his widow and two children continue to follow the case, the "News of Armenia" reports.
The Sargsyan’s complaint, in particular, presents accusations of violating his right to possess and manage one's property, the right to privacy and family life; of destructing a number of Armenian cemeteries in Azerbaijan; of deprivation of the Armenians, who were forced to leave their residence, of legal defence means, and discrimination on the basis of nationality and religion; and of the government's inaction in connection with the facts of violence.
