Volgograd hunger-strikers state their housing problems (+ video)
The participants of the hunger strike in Volgograd state the absence of proper housing; some of them argue that they are on the waiting list for many years.
Let us remind you that the hunger strike of parents of large families and parents of children with disabilities is held in the building of the former Regional Committee of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (CPRF) from February 4. The parents demand to solve their housing problems, increase the rate of allowances, benefits and social assistance to families with many children and disabled children.
"We live with my mother in a one-room apartment," Natalia Kalachova, a mother of three children, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. "We got on the waiting list in 1998. They told me then that waiting is useless and asked to take care myself."
Lyubov Grechukhina also has three children. "We live in a rented one-room apartment," she said. "The rental fee is 8000 roubles; we have not enough money. They dissuaded us from getting to the waiting list."
On February 5, the hunger-strikers were visited by Andrei Popkov, a Regional Duma Deputy, and political analyst Konstantin Glushenok.
"I support the parents morally," Andrei Popkov told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. "Because there are very decent women here, who disagree with cutting children benefits, increase of public transport fares and deteriorating the social situation."
