25 protesters against Sochi Olympics detained in Nalchik
Today, 25 protesters against the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi were detained in the city of Nalchik by employees of the OVD (Interior Division) No. 1, said Abubekir Murzakan, the chairman of the public movement "Adyge Khekuzh-Circassia".
The message about the dispersal of the protest arrived today at the SMS-service of the "Caucasian Knot". "A protest against the Olympics was dispersed in Nalchik," wrote the author of the message.
Abubekir Murzakan was also among the detainees.
"A column of several cars with Circassian activists decorated with Circassian flags and flags with the words: 'Sochi is land of genocide' moved around the city. Thus, by driving peacefully and quietly the Circassian activists expressed their protest against the Olympics," Mr Murzakan told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
According to his story, at about 2:00 p.m. Moscow time, the protesters gathered in the square named after the 400th anniversary of Kabarda's accession to Russia (also known as Mary's Square). "There, the head and employees of the OVD No. 1 of Nalchik detained us and took to the OVD. Detentions were conducted in rude manner; they even broke a finger of one of the guys," said Murzakan.
