Arthur Aidinov who died in Cherkessk SIZO was tortured, his advocate asserts
Arthur Aidinov, who had been sentenced by the court to a two-month arrest, died in SIZO (pre-trial prison) No. 2 of the city of Cherkessk under unclear circumstances. After detention, Aidinov was tortured at the police station, his relatives and advocate claim.
The 22-year-old Arthur Aidinov died in the above SIZO on January 24. He was held there on charges of extorting money from a policeman.
"He got poisoned by unidentified substance; it was for examination; no materials have been received yet," Sergey Shuvaev, the spokesman of the Investigating Department (ID) for the Karachay-Cherkessian Republic (KChR) of the Investigating Committee of the Russian federation (ICRF), told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
In their turn, the advocates of Arthur Aidinov have complained to Vladimir Kolokoltsev, the Minister of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation; Alexander Bastrykin, the head of the ICRF; Vladimir Lukin, the Russian Ombudsman; the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of the KChR and the above ID for the KChR of the ICRF.
In their complaint, the advocates demand to establish and bring to justice the perpetrators of torture in relation to Arthur Aidinov, and punish those responsible for the criminal negligence that had caused his death.
