Activists of Circassian organizations are outraged with opening ceremony of the Olympics
The historical items presented at the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympic Games have demonstrated that the Caucasophobia and Circassiaphobia are raised to the level of real Russia's politics, said Asker Sokht, the head of the public organization "Adyge Khase" of the Krasnodar Territory.
"I'm just amazed and shocked by the opening ceremony of the 22nd Winter Olympic Games at the Sochi Central Stadium... The central stadium of the Winter Olympics bears a Circassian name ("Fisht", – note of the "Caucasian Knot"), but Circassians found no place there," Asker Sokht told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
In his opinion, "the organizers of the Olympic Games demonstrated quite clearly that the modern Russia is weary of its multiethnic and multi-religious nature," and "playing up the xenophobic moods of the marginal part of the Russian society is now a part of the state policy."
Judging by the opening of the Olympics, the Russian Federation is inhabited by Russians only, said Arambij Khapay, the former chairman of the movement "Adyge Khase-Circassian Parliament" of Adygea and now a member of the executive committee of the Maikop organization "Adyge Khase-Circassian Council".
He added that he was extremely unpleased with the absence of Circassians and other Caucasian nations in the opening programme of the Olympic Games. "The Caucasus does not deserve such treatment," Mr Khapay said.
