Russian figure skaters win gold medal in the team Olympic event
The Russian Olympic team secured its gold medal well before the end of the competition in team figure skating.
Earlier, on February 8 – the first day of the team event, the Russian figure skating team came took the first place almost from the very beginning.
The victory of Russian figure skaters became clear, after the Canadian Kaetlyn Osmond dropped to the second place in her free performance; and according to the rules of scoring Russians stood beyond the reach, the "Interfax" reports.
Earlier, Evgeny Plyushchenko won the first place in the men's free skate, bringing Russians' advantage over Canada to 7 points. Thus, to win the overall gold Canadians needed to take two first places in the remaining two events, while Russia was enough to take two fifths, the ITAR-TASS reported.
Then, the Russian Yulia Lipnitskaya won the free event among women, and brought the first gold medal to Russia at the Games.
