Sochi: organizer of rally against "residence-based discrimination" challenges the officials' refusal to grant sanction

On February 10, Roman Shikarev, one of the organizers of the rally against "residence-based discrimination" addressed the court with his complaint about the actions of officials of the city administration, who had banned illegally, in his opinion, the applied public event.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in Sochi Roman Shikarev and Vladimir Kimaev, the leaders of the public movement "Law and Order" and the local branch of the "Yabloko" Party, accordingly, had applied for a rally against "residence-based discrimination of Sochi townspeople" scheduled for February 16; they also wanted to discuss environmental and socio-economic problems. However, the Sochi Administration failed to agree the action, demanding to reduce the number of participants from 500 to 100 people.

As reported by Shikarev, an employee of the department handed over a Mayoralty's notification to him with the refusal; in his opinion, it is contrary to the law and the right to the freedom of public expression.

Let us remind you that according to Vladimir Putin's decree of January 4, the number of participants, the time and venue of actions, not related to the Games, shall be defined by the Sochi Administration.
