Investigators and prosecutors question Volgograd hunger-strikers
In Volgograd, parents with many children and parents of children with disabilities are on their hunger strike for the eighth day already. On February 10, the venue of the protest action was visited by investigators of the Regional Investigating Committee, who interviewed the protesters. On Tuesday, the hunger-strikers, some of whom have continued health worsening, were visited by employees of the Prosecutor's Office.
Let us remind you that the parents demand to solve their housing problems, and increase the amount of benefits and social assistance to families with many children and disabled children.
"Neither the Governor, nor the top-ranking officials of the region have bothered to come to us; however, Mikhail Muzraev, the head of the Investigating Department of the Investigating Committee of the Russian federation (ICRF) for the Volgograd Region, for several hours personally listened to the problems of each of the hunger-strikers. Then, he instructed his subordinates to interrogate each of us and take note of how to solve the problems," Georgy Goryachevskiy, a hunger-striker, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
Oksana Cheredinina, the Senior Assistant of the Public Prosecutor of the Volgograd Region for Media Relations, explained as to the meeting with the hunger-strikers that "the check is carried out under the signals in the media."
Let us remind you that on the first day of the hunger strike, officials of the Volgograd Region also came to meet the protesters; they promised to report the problems of large families to the Regional Duma and the Governor. Then, the protesters stated that the visitors gave no timing for addressing their problems; therefore, they refused to stop their action.
