Armenian Police denied initiation of cases against ANC activists

The Armenian police spokesman said that no criminal case was opened against the activists of the "Armenian National Congress" (ANC), detained for distributing leaflets on February 12; their actions are studied within the framework of the preliminary investigation.

Let us remind you that 12 ANC activists were detained on Wednesday, when they were handing out leaflets in Yerevan about the ANC rally, scheduled for March 1. Also, at night on February 10, policemen also detained nine other young people with leaflets. Sargis Gevorgyan, an ANC activist, said that the detainees were accused of hooliganism.

The spokesman also said that the police were also studying the statement of the ANC activist Anya Gevorgyan that policemen had used force against her. Should it become clear that the statement is true, measures will be taken to bring perpetrators to justice.
