Detained ANC activists are suspected of hooliganism, Police of Armenia reports
The Police of Armenia have opened a criminal case on hooliganism against the ANC activists who were disseminating leaflets on February 12 in Mashtots Avenue with information about the rally upcoming on March 1. Earlier, the police refuted the information about a criminal case against the activists.
Let us remind you that twelve ANC activists were detained when handing out leaflets about the rally of their party, scheduled for March 1. Also, at night on February 10, policemen detained other nine young people with leaflets. Sargis Gevorgyan, an ANC activist, said that the detainees were accused of hooliganism.
An inquiry on hooliganism, committed by a group of persons, is underway, says the website of the Police of Armenia, explaining: "On February 12, a group of persons, near No. 7/1 in Mashtots Avenue grossly violated the public order by exhibiting disrespect to passers-by. They also used violence in respect to each other."
Earlier, Aram Manukyan, the secretary of the ANC parliamentary faction, told reporters that "the obstruction of activists' actions is a provocation on the part of the authorities."
