Elderly Volgograd hunger-striker refused to move to social hotel
Volgograd officials offered Lydia Petrova, 83, who is taking part in the hunger strike of parents of many children and children with disabilities, and people without housing, to move to a social hotel. The woman disagrees with such solution of her housing problem.
The health status of the protesters is getting worse every day, Georgy Goryachevskiy, a hunger-striker, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
According to a letter that was delivered to the hunger-strikers, the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of the Volgograd Region received information about Lydia Petrova's hardships from the local prosecutor's office.
"The Ministry hereby notifies you about a possibility of taking you on a free social servicing at the social hotel named "The Kirov Complex Social Centre for Helping Homeless People" for up to 180 days," says the letter.
The document also says that the clients of the above hotel are provided with a bed, three meals per day, social and medical services, psychological and legal help, and, if there are medical indications, assistance in sending for permanent residence in a boarding house.
Lydia Petrova's problem was discussed on September 25, 2013, in the public reception office of Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev. Then, Evgeny Gorskiy, the Minister of Social Protection of the Volgograd Region, stated that "it is necessary to buy housing for the old woman by attracting sponsors' funds" and promised to resolve the problem by November 25, 2013.
