Sochi: organizers of the action against "residence-based discrimination" agree with Mayoralty to jointly address city problems

On February 14, Roman Shikarev and Vladimir Kimaev, the organizers of a rally against "residence-based discrimination", held a roundtable in the Mayoralty of Sochi, at the request of the officials, instead of the rally scheduled for February 16. The parties expressed satisfaction with the format of the event and agreed to meet again in a month.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Roman Shikarev, the leader of the public movement "Law and Order", and Vladimir Kimaev, the head of the local branch of the "Yabloko" Party, had applied for a rally on February 16 against discrimination based on the place of residence and with the aim to draw attention to environmental and socio-economic problems of the city. The authorities refused to sanction the rally, demanding to reduce the number of potential participants from 500 to 100 people, and suggested a conference instead of a rally.

Earlier, the organizers agreed to replace a rally with a conference or a roundtable, provided the journalists of the "Caucasian Knot" and the newspaper "Mestnaya" (Local) are present there.

Let us remind you that on August 19, 2013, Russian President issued a decree on security measures during the preparation and holding the Sochi Olympic and Paralympic Games, which completely banned public events during the Games. On January 4, it became known that Vladimir Putin amended the decree by allowing mass actions not related to the Games.
