In Moscow, rally in support of ecologist Evgeny Vitishko was 100 people strong
In the Moscow's Gorky Park, in Pushkin Embankment, a picket in support of the ecologist Evgeny Vitishko took place.
The action was attended by up to 100 people; the ecologist Evgenia Chirikova and activists of the "Yabloko" Party among them. The activists were threatened by unidentified persons, but the police did not pay attention to it, people report on the Twitter.
Let us remind you that Vitishko criticized the organization of the Olympic Games in Sochi, which, according to the Human Rights Watch, could cause his prosecution. Besides, the refusal to cancel the replacement of his conditional punishment for real imprisonment caused concern of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
Then, Russian authorities notified the IOC that the Vitishko's prosecution was not caused by his criticism of the organization of the Olympic Games. The explanation said that he was prosecuted for vandalism and was sent to settlement-colony because he violated the terms of his conditional sentence, the American newspaper "The USA Today" reports citing the press secretary of the IOC Mark Adams.
