Chechen native claims being tortured in Karelian colony
As reported by Aminat Malsagova, the Chair of the Public Supervisory Commission (PSC) of Chechnya, a native of Chechnya, who is serving his sentence in a colony in Karelia, had been tortured and is currently in hospital in Vologda.
According to Aminat, Lom-Ali Gelogaev was first tortured on December 11, 2013, in the context of which on December 14 he went on hunger strike. Malsagova has added that on January 23 she managed to meet the prisoner.
"Gelogaev's condition was depressing. He was on his hunger strike for 43 days. Numerous bruises and haematomas on his body spoke for themselves. His fingers got atrophied, because they hung him by handcuffs. Because of cold in his cell, his toes are frostbitten," said Aminat Malsagova. According to her story, on the following day after they visited him, Gelogaev stopped the hunger strike.
After the talk with the convict, his advocates wrote complaints to the colony boss, the head of the Penitentiary Department (known as UFSIN) for Karelia and the republic's prosecutor for overseeing law enforcement in prisons. The complaints were sent to the addressees on January 27.
Aminat Malsagova has specified that currently Gelogaev is in the hospital of the UFSIN system in Vologda. According to her story, after the convict starts recovering, he will be convoyed to another region; nobody knows where.
