Chechen native Muzaev was again stopped from flying to London by Border Service of Georgian MIA

Today, the Frontier Service of the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) has again stopped Saikhan Muzaev, an ethnic Chechen, who took the citizenship of Georgia in 2011, from boarding the flight Tbilisi-Trabzon-London, said Alex Shoshikelashvili, the head of the Human Rights Institute.

Saikhan Muzaev was supposed to fly to study in London in January 2014. However, on January 13, 18 and 23, and on February 10, the man, who has a ticket and an entry British visa, was not let through the passport check service.

Saikhan Muzaev himself said that he was not let out because of the persecution by the officers of the counter-intelligence service of the Georgian MIA. "They want me to give incriminating testimony against the former Deputy Minister of Georgia Giorgi Lortkipanidze and officer Sandro Ameridze about the armed clash in the vicinity of the village of Lapankuri in August 2012," Muzaev told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

On February 16, the Public Defender of Georgia Ucha Nanuashvili made an official statement, addressed to the MIA and the Prosecutor's Office, in which he pointed out that the refusal to let Saikhan Muzaev out of Georgia without giving reasons is a violation of Article 22 of the Constitution, which guarantees citizens the freedom of movement outside Georgia.
