Incidents at Armenian-Azerbaijani border cannot turn into full-scale war, experts believe
Military experts polled by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent believe that recent more frequent violations of the ceasefire in the conflict zone in Nagorno-Karabakh will not lead to a resumption of a full-scale warfare.
Let us remind you that during the meeting in Paris on January 24 of Foreign Ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia, the members of the OSCE Minsk Group expressed their concern about the rising tensions in the contact zone of Armenian and Azerbaijani troops.
Manvel Sarkisyan, a political analyst and the Director of the Armenian Centre for National and International Studies, said that the incidents in the Armenian-Azerbaijani border are intended to affect the atmosphere, in which the talks should go. According to his version, it is not by occasion that incidents occur almost always on the eve of some political or diplomatic event. "The recent developments on the border on the eve of the meeting of Foreign Ministers of the two countries are another confirmation," Manvel Sarkisyan told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
He believes that border incidents cannot escalate into an open military conflict.
This opinion is supported by Sergey Minasyan, the Deputy Director of the Institute of the Caucasus. According to his opinion, the preservation of the military-political, military-technical and foreign-political balance in the conflict zone, as well as the involvement of regional actors, is a safeguard against escalation of the conflict into a full-scale war.
