Gold mine workers hold protest in Bolnisi and demand from TV to objectively cover events
The striking workers of the RMG-Gold and RMG-Copper have held a protest in front of the TV Company "Public Broadcaster of Georgia" with a demand to media people to be objective in reporting the situation at the enterprises.
"The public television is actually a state-owned mass medium. However, instead of covering the real problems, they are doing something incomprehensible. They broadcast serials, organize talk shows on abstract topics, but such an event as a strike of 300 workers remains uncovered," Batu Kupaliani, an activist of the student movement, told the "Caucasian knot" correspondent.
Workers of the Georgian mining companies RMG Gold and RMG Copper announced a strike on February 14. They demand to reinstate at work 186 earlier dismissed employees of the RMG Gold and better working conditions.
"We have wages from 300 to 800 laris (170-500 US dollars) per month; and this is what we get since 2002. Moreover, we work for 12 hours a day; and the salary does not suit us," the striking workers told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
