Yerevan hosts photo exhibition "They need housing"

The exhibition of photographs held in Armenia is dedicated to the people of the city of Spitak, who survived in the earthquake of 1988 and still need housing.

"The exhibition focuses on the life of Gyumri residents, who were made homeless by the earthquake, and on their struggle for existence," said the organizers of the exhibition, namely: the charitable public organization "Armenian Caritas"; the municipality of the city of Gyumri; and the Department for Public Information of the United Nations in Armenia.

More than 20 photos presented at the exhibition were made in 2013 by the young Gyumri photographer Hayk Barsegyan.

He visited temporary houses (containers) in Gyumri, where 16 families live. According to his story, the photos were taken for the anniversary of the earthquake. "Every time I went into the containers of these people, at the sight of the conditions, in which they live, I was overtaken by sadness and grief," says Hayk Barsegyan.

The photographer noted that he would continue filming the earthquake-affected people living in squalid conditions in order to present new photos at the next exhibition.
