Kabardino-Balkarian SC refuses to recognize "For Human Rights" Branch as foreign agent
The judicial board on civil cases of the Supreme Court (SC) of Kabardino-Balkaria has dismissed an appeal against the refusal to recognize the regional branch of the "For Human Rights" as foreign agent. This was reported by advocate Alexei Glukhov, who represented the interests of the organization in the court.
Let us remind you that on November 5, 2013, Arthur Makhov, Deputy Prosecutor of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic, read out a warning to Valery Khatazhukov, Chairman of the Kabardino-Balkarian Human Rights Centre, about violating the Law "On foreign agents". Human rights defenders have appealed against the warning to the court. They have stressed that they are not engaged in political activities.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that at present, the claims filed by other human rights organizations are also under consideration. So, after an unscheduled inspection, the Moscow Prosecutor's Office has demanded that the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" should be registered as a foreign agent. The organization treats the conclusion made by the prosecutors who found political nature in her activities as incorrect. On February 4, the trial to consider the claim filed by the HRC "Memorial" was postponed till April 15.
According to the Human Rights Association "Agora", at present, no one organization against which a public prosecutor's representation was made or administrative proceedings were instituted, did not enter the register of foreign agents.
