ECtHR finds Russian power agents responsible for kidnapping of 13 people in Chechnya
The European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) has passed its decision on the case "Djabrailov et al versus Russia", by recognizing the responsibility of Russian law enforcement bodies for the kidnapping and probable death of 13 residents of Chechnya.
The case has united complaints of 32 residents of Chechen, which dealt with the kidnappings committed in different districts of Chechnya in 2000-2004.
According to the ECtHR, Russian power agents had violated the following four articles of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR): the right to life; the prohibition of torture and ill-treatment; the freedom and personal immunity; and the right to effective remedy (Articles 2, 3, 5 and 13 of the ECHR).
As reported by the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial", the ECtHR has ordered the Russian authorities to pay to the applicants 780,000 euros as compensation of the moral harm; 85,000 euros for their material losses; and 23,400 euros for their judicial expenses.
