Human rights defenders complete check of facts of torture to Ruslan Kutaev
The United Mobile Group of rights defenders has finished checking the reports about torturing Ruslan Kutaev, a resident of Chechnya and president of the "Assembly of Caucasian Nations". The human rights organization "Committee against Torture" reports that the actions of officials used against Kutaev are qualified as torture.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Kutaev was detained on February 20 by law enforcement employees in the village of Gekhi, Urus-Martan District of Chechnya, on suspicion of illegal possession of drugs. His advocates have appealed against his detention at the Supreme Court of Chechnya.
The release issued by the "Committee against Torture" states that in the course of investigation, rights defenders found evidence that on February 20-22, state officials subjected Ruslan Kutaev physical pressure, aiming to force him to confess, which caused his severe physical and mental sufferings.
On March 3, 2014, the materials of the above public inquiry will be delivered to the Ombudsman of the Russian Federation Vladimir Lukin and to Mikhail Fedotov, the chairman of the Presidential Council for Development of Civil Society and Human Rights.
Let us remind you that after the detention one of Kutaev's relatives said that he began facing problems after the conference "Deportation of Chechen people. What was it and is it possible to forget it?", which was held in Chechnya on February 18.
