Karelian UFSIN refutes Chechen's report about beatings in colony
The information about beatings in a colony located in Karelia spread by Lom-Ali Gelogaev, a native of Chechnya, via his advocate is untrue, Vitaly Fefelov, the head of the press service of the UFSIN (Department of the Federal Penitentiary Service) of the Republic of Karelia, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent on March 1.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Svetlana Yashina, a Gelogaev's advocate, earlier told that her client was beaten on December 11 in Colony No. 7 in Karelia, after which he went on hunger strike that lasted for 43 days.
According to Vitaly Fefelov, "there were no preconceived attitudes to the convict." The press service also added: "The fact is that the behaviour of the convict was is characterized by a pronounced observance of the norms and values of the criminal subculture, accompanied by non-adequate actions, insults of the personnel, active opposition to the demands of the administration, as well as attempts and threats to commit acts of self-harm against himself." This was reported by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
So far, no comments have arrived of the Gelogaev's advocate on the above statements of the UFSIN.
